Aspen Mirror Lake is one of the top recreational locations in Duck Creek Village. Surrounded by aspen trees, the small mountain lake at 8,400 feet elevation lies in the heart of Dixie National Forest. Cool water reflects the big blue Utah sky, offering a picturesque place to hike, relax, meditate, SUP, kayak, or fish.
Rainbow trout fill the lake. You might also spot wildlife like ducks, large birds of prey (hawks, eagles, and falcons), deer, and antelope. Bobcats and cougars are found in Dixie National Forest but are rarer sightings.
Directions from USFS:
Aspen Mirror Lake is a beautiful, easy-to-reach location to enjoy the best of Southern Utah scenery. Aspen Mirror Lake is southwest of Duck Creek Village — simply follow Highway 14 westward and turn at the Aspen Mirror junction sign on FS Road # 30057. The trailhead is located at the end of the road, and the lake is just a short five-minute walk down a non-motorized trail. Click here to download the map.
Visiting: Aspen Mirror Lake is picturesque all year round, but one of our favorite times to visit is during the fall when the leaves begin to turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow.
Things to bring:
- Light layers and seasonally appropriate clothing. Even in the summer months, you never know when the weather can switch in the mountains!
- Camp chairs or a large blanket for lounging. Bring lightweight, tailgating-style chairs that you can easily set up by the lake. Take a break and enjoy the fresh air!
Aspen Mirror Lake is the perfect place to stop for a short road trip break, or you can make a full day out of it before heading into town for dinner at Hot Mama’s Pizza & Brew.
