As the sun rises over the Coral Cliffs Golf Course, 40 brilliantly colored hot air balloons lift off from the grass rising against the red rock cliffs of Kanab. The balloons are piloted into the sky, floating like an otherworldly scene across the Southern Utah desert.
The annual “Balloons & Tunes Roundup Festival” in Kanab is scheduled for its eighth year, coming up February 18 -20, 2022. Each morning – weather permitting – the balloons are launched at 7:30 am. Revelry, live music, and a one-of-a-kind vendor fair follow, keeping the celebration going throughout the weekend.

Kanab is known as “Little Hollywood” because of its role as an iconic location in Old West films. It is primarily a farming, ranching, and recreational community surrounded by desert and geologic scenery. Because of its location, it remained isolated for many years, reachable only by rough dirt roads. Today, it’s home to just over 4,000 people. It is a popular hub between the southwest’s national parks (Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon National Parks, Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument, and Lake Powell NRA).
