It usually happens on the second night.
Nobody scheduled it. Nobody assigned it. But somewhere around 5pm, someone walks into the outdoor kitchen, fires up one of the grills, and other people start drifting over with their drinks. The conversation starts. The smell of food gets into everything. And by the time it’s dark, 18 people are eating together around a table under the Utah sky and this, it turns out, is the moment everyone remembers.
Zen Nest was designed for exactly this. Here’s how to make the most of it.
What You’re Working With
Eagle’s outdoor kitchen is a full setup, not a side feature. Multiple gas grills, a wood-fired pizza oven, full prep counter space, and everything you need to cook for a large group without it becoming a logistical ordeal. Two outdoor bars on the property, fire pits for gathering after the meal, and a deck that comfortably holds everyone at once.
The kitchen works best when someone who genuinely likes to cook takes it over. If that’s not your group, a private chef can be arranged in advance, local chefs handle one or multiple meals. Worth it for a special night, especially if you want to actually sit down and be present instead of managing logistics.
The Utah Wine Surprise
Most guests don’t expect Utah to have a wine scene worth talking about. It does. Southern Utah’s high-altitude climate produces wines that pair well with outdoor meals and evenings on the deck. The region’s producers are small and largely unknown outside the state, which makes them exactly the kind of discovery worth seeking out. Stock up in Cedar City before arriving and ask locally for recommendations.
A Meal Plan That Actually Works for 18 People
The trap with large groups is overcomplicating the cooking. The meals that work best at Zen Nest are the ones with one or two anchor dishes and a table full of sides. Pizza night in the outdoor oven is the obvious move, easy to scale, everyone participates, the oven becomes the event. Grilled meats with a long prep table of sides works for the big group dinner. Breakfast is easy: eggs, bacon, fruit, coffee on the outdoor kitchen, people drift in at their own pace.
Save the complex cooking for nights when the group is smaller and the energy is right.
The Private Chef Option
For one special evening a private chef changes everything. You’re not cooking, not cleaning, not managing. You’re sitting at the table while someone who knows what they’re doing takes care of it all. The property team can help arrange this in advance. Not something to figure out last minute.
Before You Arrive: The Shopping Strategy
The nearest full grocery store is 40 minutes away in Cedar City. Plan your meals before you leave home. Assign someone to coordinate, nothing derails group meals faster than arriving without a plan. Build a shared list, assign who brings what, and arrive stocked for the full stay. The outdoor kitchen rewards preparation.
